Terms and conditions
This English version is for information only. The Dutch version is legally authoritative. Algemene voorwaarden
In brief
- A contract is formed when you accept a written quote and pay the 30 % deposit.
- You may move or cancel free of charge up to 5 days before the booked start time.
- Consumers who contract at a distance have fourteen days to withdraw, subject to the statutory exceptions.
- Once the invoice is paid in full, the producer rights in the recording made for you sit with you.
- The Dutch text is authoritative. These terms apply from 1 October 2026.
1. Who we are and when these terms apply
These terms apply to every quote, booking and service of:
- Labsterra B.V.
- Address: Czaar Peterstraat 213, 1018 PL Amsterdam, the Netherlands
- KvK: 73172301 — VAT ID: NL879554162B01
- Director: Lars van den Berg
- Telephone: 020 244 18 06 — e-mail: [email protected]
They cover vocal recording, mixing, mastering, band recording, podcast recording and combinations of those. Public rates are listed under services.
The contract is made up, in this order, of the special terms on the accepted quote, these conditions and — if you are a business that places other people's personal data with us — the data processing agreement, which prevails for that data. The privacy policy and the disclaimer are not part of the contract; they explain how we handle data and the site. Read these terms before you accept a quote. If you do not want them, do not accept the quote.
Identity and publication duties are also in the legal notice.

3. Information before you book
For consumers, the site and the quote set out the essentials of the service, the price, the time of performance, our identity, the right of withdrawal where it applies and how to complain, as required by the pre-contractual information rules in the Dutch Civil Code. Each service page describes the run of play, what is included and what is not.
We reply to a complete enquiry within 2 working days. Studio hours: Tuesday–Friday 10:00–20:00, Saturday 11:00–18:00. Closed Monday and Sunday. How to reach us: Tram 10 stops at Czaar Peterstraat; it is about a three-minute walk to number 213. From Oostplein metro (lines 51, 53 and 54) allow roughly ten minutes on foot along Czaar Peterstraat.
4. Quote and formation of the contract
A request through the contact form, e-mail or telephone is an invitation to treat, not an offer. We send a written quote. It remains valid for 14 days unless the quote states another period. The slot is reserved only when we have received both the acceptance and the deposit. Until then the slot may go to someone else.
Acceptance can be by e-mail (a clear agreement is enough) or by signing the quote. For a distance contract we confirm the booking by e-mail, repeating the quote details. We may refuse a request if the project does not fit the rooms, the diary or safety, for example more than 8 people at once or a setup that overstretches the 42 m² live room or the 3 booths.
The contact form is routed through FormSubmit, a service in the United States. To avoid that route, write to [email protected] or call 020 244 18 06.
5. Prices and VAT
Amounts on the site and on the quote are in euro and include 21% VAT, unless we expressly state a net amount for a business client. The price that applies is the price on the accepted quote. The public guide prices are:
| Service | Unit | Price incl. VAT |
|---|---|---|
| Vocal recording | hour / half day (4 hours) | €95 / €340 |
| Mixing | track / EP up to 5 tracks | €185 / €780 |
| Mastering | track / album up to 12 tracks | €68 / €235 |
| Band recording | hour / day (8 hours) | €125 / €920 |
| Podcast recording | hour / episode up to 90 min | €88 / €245 |
Extra time beyond the reserved block is billed only if you ask for it, per half hour started, at that service's hourly rate. Options that are not on the quote (extra stems, a new mix direction, a vinyl-specific master) go ahead only after a written confirmation of the extra price. A practical note on mix spend is in the guide estimating a mix budget.
6. Deposit and payment
On booking you pay a deposit of 30 % of the price including VAT. That is part of the price, not a casual reservation fee. A consumer pays the balance on the session day, or — for mix and master delivered at a distance — when we deliver the version you accept as final.
Business clients pay the balance within 14 days of the invoice date. If that period is missed, statutory commercial interest is due, together with extrajudicial collection costs under the Dutch decree on those costs.
Payment methods: bank transfer and, at the studio, debit card. While an invoice is unpaid we may withhold the final files. Working sessions stay in the archive as article 11 describes. We do not send files out before the deposit has landed.
7. Moving or cancelling by you
| When | Effect |
|---|---|
| 5 days or more before the start | Move or cancel at no charge. On cancellation we refund the deposit within fourteen days. |
| Less than 5 days, or a no-show | The deposit stays with the studio, except in case of force majeure on your side or where article 8 (withdrawal) applies. |
Ask to move or cancel by e-mail to [email protected] or by calling 020 244 18 06, then confirm in writing. A move is possible once, to a date within three months if that date is free. Arriving late on the day shortens the session by that time; we cannot overrun if the next block is taken.
These studio rules do not cut down a consumer's statutory right of withdrawal.
8. Right of withdrawal
If you conclude the contract as a consumer at a distance (form, e-mail or telephone) or off-premises, you have fourteen days from conclusion of the contract to withdraw, without giving a reason. That right does not apply to a contract you conclude at the studio.
If you want the session or the remote work to start before that period ends, you must ask for that expressly. If you then withdraw, you pay a proportionate amount for what was supplied up to the moment we received the withdrawal. The right of withdrawal ends for a service that has been fully performed before the period expires, if performance began after your express prior consent and you acknowledged that you lose the right once the service is fully performed. The same applies to digital files not supplied on a tangible medium, if delivery began with that consent and acknowledgement, and to work clearly made to your specifications.
Withdraw with an unambiguous statement to [email protected] or by post to Czaar Peterstraat 213, 1018 PL Amsterdam, the Netherlands. You may use the model below. We refund within fourteen days of receiving the withdrawal, by the same means of payment, unless we agree otherwise.
Model withdrawal form
To: Labsterra B.V., Czaar Peterstraat 213, 1018 PL Amsterdam, the Netherlands, [email protected]
I/We hereby give notice that I/we withdraw from my/our contract for the following service:
- Ordered on:
- Name of consumer(s):
- Address of consumer(s):
- Signature (only if this form is notified on paper):
- Date:
9. Cancellation or change by the studio
If we have to drop a session (equipment failure, illness of the scheduled engineer, an incident in the building), we tell you as soon as we can and offer a new date. If that date does not work, we refund everything you have already paid within fourteen days. We do not quietly swap the engineer named on the quote; a change is discussed first.
A small shift of the start time on the same day, with your agreement, is not a cancellation.
10. How a session runs
Hours: Tuesday–Friday 10:00–20:00, Saturday 11:00–18:00. Closed Monday and Sunday. The live room is 42 m², the control room 18 m², with 3 isolation booths. At most 8 people may work in the rooms at the same time.
We take clients from 16 years of age. If you are under eighteen, a legal representative books and pays; that person is present during the session or has agreed in writing that the session may run without them. We do not run a session for anyone younger than 16.
You treat the rooms and the kit with care and follow the engineer's directions. Smoking and vaping in the building are not allowed. We may stop a session if people or equipment are at risk; the reserved block then remains payable. Damage to studio kit caused by your fault or neglect is on you. Gear you bring stays in your care; your own insurance is wise.
For hearing we work at moderate monitor levels and build in breaks. Earplugs are available. What to prepare for vocals is in the guide preparing a voice for the studio.
11. Files, delivery and archive
Unless the quote says otherwise, we deliver WAV 24-bit via a download link or on a drive you supply. Mix and master deadlines run from the moment we have complete, playable files. Lead times are counted in working days. How to hand over stems is in exchanging stems for a mix.
We keep a copy of the sessions for 24 months after the last session or the last delivery, on an archive of 48 TB. After that we delete the copy. It is your job to secure your files during that window. Longer storage is only by written agreement, as a separate arrangement. We do not send final files while an invoice is open (article 6).
12. Revisions
Mix and master each include 2 revision rounds, unless the quote states another number. One round is one bundled list of notes that we work through in a single pass. Extra rounds, or a new artistic direction after you have signed off a version, go through a new quote. Studio recording hours sit outside this revision regime: what was captured in the block is the fixation; an extra block is a separate booking.
13. Intellectual property
Your works. Compositions, lyrics, samples and covers you bring remain yours or their rightholders'. You warrant that you have the permissions you need and that you handle filings with collective management organisations yourself. The studio claims no copyright in your works.
The fixation. The producer of a phonogram is the person who takes the initiative and the responsibility for the first fixation. When you commission and pay for the recording, that role is yours. To the extent Labsterra B.V. could still claim rights in the fixation made for you, it assigns those rights once the invoice is paid in full.
Performers. Fixing and exploiting a performance needs the performer's authorisation. You obtain that authorisation for the musicians, voices and guests you bring. We supply the technical realisation and acquire no exploitation right in the performance.
Voice and automated systems. We do not use your recordings to train, test or improve artificial-intelligence systems, and we do not build a voice clone without the specific written permission of the person concerned.
Credits. We do not name you or your project as an example without your written consent. A plain-language note on splits and credits is in rights in a band recording.
14. Liability
We apply the means that belong with a careful recording studio: treated rooms, 16 preamps, an engineer in the session. The artistic outcome also depends on your preparation, arrangement and choices. We do not take on an obligation of result and we make no promise about streams, press or charts.
Our liability is limited to direct loss that was reasonably foreseeable when the contract was formed, and only in case of an attributable shortcoming. That cap does not apply in case of intent or wilful recklessness, does not apply to personal injury, and does not take from a consumer any right that statute makes mandatory.
For business clients, other than in case of intent or wilful recklessness, the total amount per job is limited to the price including VAT of that quote. Consequential loss, downtime or a lost chance is excluded. Keep your own copies; after the archive period in article 11 we cannot retrieve a deleted session.
15. Personal data
We process contact and project data in order to reply, schedule, invoice and carry out the service. How long, on which legal basis and with which parties is set out in the privacy policy. The cookie retention on the site is 182 days under the key lbst_consent_v1; see the cookie policy.
If you are a business and you bring guests, voice-over artists or band members whose voice or image we record, you are the controller for those people and our data processing agreement applies.
16. Complaints
Send a complaint in writing to [email protected] or by post to the address in article 1. We acknowledge receipt within 2 working days and then give a reasoned reply. Name the quote date, the service and what you say went wrong.
We are not a member of a dispute committee. If discussion does not resolve the matter, a consumer may apply to the competent court in the Netherlands. Information on consumer law is available from the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets, through ConsuWijzer. That body does not decide disputes for us.
17. Governing law and jurisdiction
These terms and the contract are governed by the law of the Netherlands, including the mandatory European consumer rules that form part of that law.
A consumer may choose the court that statute makes competent, including the court of the place where the consumer lived when the contract was formed. A clause that takes that choice away from the consumer is void.
For disputes between Labsterra B.V. and a business client, the court of Amsterdam has jurisdiction, unless mandatory law points to another court.
18. Final provisions
If a provision is void or is set aside, the other provisions remain and the parties replace that provision with a valid rule closest to its purpose. Not relying on a clause is not a waiver.
We may change these terms. The version that applied on the day you accepted the quote remains the version for that contract. The current version is on this page, effective 1 October 2026, reviewed 1 October 2026.
If language versions differ, the Dutch text decides. This English page is a translation for information. Questions: contact form, [email protected] or 020 244 18 06.
